WHAT THE OWNERS SAY We bought 1 Half Moon Cottages just over 3 years ago because we wanted to live in the countryside but with good links to London for work and socialising. We wanted a property with a lot of character and a good-sized garden.
From the moment we moved in, it felt like home. We absolutely love being part of the village which has a real sense of community. We will be sad to leave but we are moving closer to family. We have the best neighbours in Chandini and the other side of us, a mum and her daughter who attends the local school. We have a fantastic village pub, shop and hall which has a post office 3 times a week and a variety of classes. We are obviously Chandini's best customers and our friends and family love coming over for one of their delicious meals where the hospitality is outstanding and we always get the warmest welcome from Abu, Josh and the guys. We also were members of the gym at the Manor of Groves which was really handy, being 2 minutes up the road. The village puts on an annual scarecrow festival, we'll miss that. We've taken part for the last couple of years. This year was the first year we put on something for Christmas and had Santa ride through the village. It was really special as it bought us all together during what's been a difficult year with covid.
High Wych is so handy for the M25, M11 and the transport links into London and Cambridge are incredible which is a huge help for work meetings (pre-covid!). We are also spoilt for choice for restaurants and pubs being so near to Sawbridgeworth.
The house is lovely and cosy in winter and in summer outstanding for outside entertaining. We eat outside throughout summer under the pergola, where the vines grow grapes which can be made into wine! We have a couple of hedgehogs who visit the garden from time to time and lots of birds.
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION High Wych lies approximately two miles South West of the town of Sawbridgeworth. Amenities include a Church of England Primary School, a late 19th century church, a village hall, a public house, a golf and country club, a post office and a Private hospital. The location is convenient for access to the M11/A414 and mainline train stations at Sawbridgeworth and Harlow serving London Liverpool Street, Cambridge and Stansted Airport. Harlow is approximately 4 miles to the South East of High Wych and the town offers an extensive range of shops, leisure activities and secondary schooling. The smaller town of Bishop's Stortford is approximately 7 miles North of High Wych and here too you will find a good range of shops, leisure activities and secondary schooling (both state and private).
This beautiful character cottage is situated in the heart of High Wych and oozes charm and character with wooden beams throughout and a brick fireplace hosting a log burner making a very cosy atmosphere.
To the front/side of the property is a driveway for parking and side access to the beautiful, large cottage garden. The initial garden section off the house is a covered patio area making an ideal place to relax and entertain. The rear of the garden has been landscaped with a turf section and path leading to the additional patio section at the end and the summer house which makes a great studio/office/gym.
The property opens to a spacious porch area and then leads to the cosy sitting room with the log burner, wooden flooring and wooden beams decorating the ceiling. This leads through to the open kitchen also decorated with character beams. On the ground floor, there is also a WC which stores the gas fired combi boiler and dining room to the back looking out to the garden.
There are two bedrooms on the first floor and the family bathroom with the stairs leading up to the loft room/bedroom which is currently being used as a bright office but was also used previously by the current owners as a double bedroom.
The owners have gained planning permission to replace the current conservatory with a more functional solid room with bi-fold doors leading onto the garden area. These plans are available to view upon request.
