THE SITE The original Debden Hall dated back to 1715 and consisted of a very large manor house and an extensive range of outbuildings. Henry Holland designed substantial alterations to this Hall and it is believed that Lancelot 'Capability' Brown designed the gardens and grounds.
The second phase of Debden Hall was the demolition of the main building following a fire in 1929 and a new hall erected in 1936. This hall was not as grand as the original, but was still a very substantial building.
The third phase was the demolition of Debden Hall following a major fire in 1936.
Phase four is now and consists of the re-creation of a new Debden Hall and betterment schemes for the surrounding area. This will leave a legacy for Debden and the surrounding area for future generations.
The site is a substantial irregular shaped piece of land with a wide frontage along England's Lane. The area shown within the yellow boundary extends to about 3.4 acres and has been given to Epping Forest Countrycare for it to be made public
land. The remainder measures approximately 7 acres. The main gates to Debden Hall were Grade II listed on the 29th May 1984. The Official listing states "Gateway, C19, formerly to Debden Hall (demolished).
